Cheapo collaborates with Skateistan

This fall Cheapo collaborates with celebrated non-government organization Skateistan. Cheapo, with roots in the Swedish skate scene, are long time supporters of Skateistan’s work helping at-risk youth. Skateistan uses skateboarding as a tool to motivate and educate children in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa. For the collaboration Cheapo has designed a brand new watch model named Nawroz, which means new day in Dari, the Persian spoken in Afghanistan. The watch features a minimalistic design true to Cheapo’s Scandinavian design heritage, while the color palette is inspired by Afghanistan’s mountainous landscape combined with Skateistan’s signature green color. 100 % of the proceeds are donated to Skateistan.

– ”Cheapo is a new and unique brand with roots in skateboarding. Cheapo and Skateistan both stand for respect and equality for all of humanity. Get yourself the elegant Cheapo X Skateistan watch and represent!” says Oliver Percovich, founder and Executive Director at Skateistan.

Skateistan is an award-winning international non-government organization, founded in 2007, that uses skateboarding to empower youth and connect them to educational opportunities. There are skate schools in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa, focusing on at-risk youth aged 5-18, providing them with important life skills for their futures. Skateistan works with over 1200 youth per week worldwide and over 40 % of Skateistan students are girls. Supporters include the Tony Hawk Foundation and the governments of Germany, Denmark, Finland and Switzerland. In 2013 Skateistan was included in the Top 100 NGOs list by the Global Journal and in 2015 won the Laureus Sport for Good Award. Skateistan is non-political, independent, and inclusive of all ethnicities, religions and social backgrounds. Collaborations with companies like Cheapo and donations fund Skateistan’s operations.

– ”I’ve skated more or less my entire life and I know the force for good skateboarding can be for young people, building their confidence and creating community. At Skateistan’s centers your social background, ethnicity or gender doesn’t matter, together the team overcomes all barriers and does absolutely amazing work.
